What is White Label?

A white label business is the act of getting your company's business name added to the garment's tag post garment production.

This means that you choose products from a wholesaler or manufacturer and pay to have your tags added to the items. Many wholesalers offer this option (but not all).

What is Private Label?

A private label business is a more inclusive process and involves taking part in the design of garments before having your company's tag added.

This business type involves design, visiting the manufacturer and ensuring that you're covered legally.

Which One is Better?

The answer to this question really depends on your budget and the time you have for travel and inspection costs.

If you simply want to add your tags to existing designs, your have a smaller budget and you have no desire to visit the facilities and ensure that compliance requirements are being met, white label is the better option. It's cheaper to start and the guidelines are not as stringent.

If you have your own designs, have a clear cut expectation of the materials you want to use for your design and you want as much control as possible with your products, starting a private label business is something you should look more into - sometimes, bigger risks offer bigger returns.
